Intel & VC Firms Invest 3.5 Billion Into Tech
Long ago I lost hope in the Goliaths of this world. This group included the huge corporations, VC organizations, and basically any other unit with too much money and not enough of a connection to the unemployed. Industries seeing growth right now have lost touch with the true desperation found in today’s economical climate.
Pshhh then today an announcement proves me all sorts of wrong.
Intel Corp announced today its plans to partner with 24 other venture capital firms in which they will all invest over 3.5 billion into US tech companies over the next two years. In addition, and perhaps more relevant for our purposes here, this investment is expected to create over 10,500 jobs, and all companies have pledged to focus on hiring more recent graduates.
This couldn’t have come at a better time. YourJobStop is about to announce something pretty exciting that parallels this venture into the intersection of job creation & Academia. There will be more on that in the next week, but I couldn’t help but spotlight today’s announcement from Intel. It really gives me hope that companies with the money and the power right now are trying to make the most beneficial moves for our country as a whole…not just one industry or one company’s bottom-line gain.
Intel CEO Paul Otellini was quoted as saying, “Strong, enduring economies grow out of a culture of investment and a commitment to innovation,” and we couldn’t agree more here at YourJobStop. While we understand that all companies are feeling the economical pinch that has occurred over the last two years, we also see that college graduates are facing challenges unseen until now.
What is your company doing to help reach this group? What efforts could you join to help bring opportunity to job seeking groups that really need it? We may not all be able to give 200 million (like Intel has single-handedly pledged) but even if it’s something as simple as hiring a local intern rather than outsourcing a smaller project …there are things each company can be doing to help turnaround the current employment landscape.
Huge props to Intel and the partner companies, some of which include: Adobe Systems Inc., Cisco Systems Inc., Dell Inc., Google Inc., Hewlett-Packard Co., Microsoft Corp. and Yahoo Inc.
Us job board owners, us employment bloggers, and job seekers everywhere would like to throw you a virtual high five—{high five!}.
