That Time of Year Again: Graduates & The Job Search

The first day of spring has passed and we are quickly approaching that time of year again. You know the hustle & bustle of graduation. Whether it be seniors from high school or seniors from college, this year will prove to be an interesting graduation cap and tassleone for those graduating and seeking out employment. Never before have graduating seniors faced such a tumultuous workplace. Competition is high, available positions are rare, and they are left seeking out ways to gain an advantage.

A recent article in the Hartford Courant outlined a number of tips for recent graduates as the embark on their job search, one of which is particularly relevant to our work here at YourJobStop, they wrote, “First, know this: You are extremely unlikely to get a job simply by responding to job postings that you find online.” So true friends, so true.

Whereas before submitting a well-structured resume and solid experience was enough to get a call in for an interview, it just simply isn’t the case this year. Graduating seniors need something more to offer employers. They need to demonstrate their desire to go above and beyond expectations.

How can they do this? Social profiles are a great way to show that you have more to offer than the average applicant. If you can show that all your time spent online isn’t just to tag photos but perhaps to participate in relevant groups than you are showing something unique.

This past year has shown all of us the power of social media, and YourJobStop has taken the power of social media and put it into the hands of graduating seniors. We just launched new job search widgets for colleges and universities that enable them to supplement their usual career guide material with social media specific content.

We are hoping by placing these widgets on a school’s website, the graduates viewing the career office site will see new material that can help them once they graduate. We are offering widgets with full access to our social media section which talks graduates through the uses of LinkedIn, Twitter, and Facebook when looking for a job and expanding their digital footprint.

As for the colleges we are also offering them a way to customize a job search engine to fit the look and feel of their school. Every widget can be created with your specific logo and school colors. You can also decide what size is best for your site, and how many resources you want to make available to your students.

Ultimately, we created these widgets to help colleges offer even MORE resources to their graduating seniors. As hundreds of thousands of students embark into the real world this June, we are doing our part to assure them the best possible chance at success.

It’s that time of year folks, and YourJobStop is ready to do our part. For more information on our widget program, please check out the details here.
