Navigating the Social Media Space

It’s all around us. Facebook, Twitter, Myspace, Ning, and so on and so forth. Job-seekers carry a certain burden that other social networkers don’t, they are constantly trying to use their online time to land the next job. Have you ever been out of work? Try justifying the time you spend taking online quizzes or writing back your friends from college, when you KNOW you should be looking for a job. It’s a hard sale.

But here is the good news, we at TheOnlineBeat are going to refocus our energies on helping you understand just how valuable those hours on these networks can be. We have gone ahead and added a Social Media tab that speaks specifically to the uses of social networks and online networking during your job search.

We will be building out the information there to help you understand not only the uses and advantages, but also the difficulties and concerns you should be aware of, when navigating your job search in a Social Media world. We have also linked to the many other places you can find TheOnlineBeat gettings social, we have groups across Myspace, LinkedIn, Facebook, and Twitter that are all working to land each other jobs and succeed. Feel free to join us, there is plenty of room in the job-seeking train .

We have recently put up a “How-To” for Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter, these sections will help any newbie get started with these somewhat challenging networks. We know it can be overwhelming, ANYthing new can be, but we are here to help. If you have any questions, we ask that you email us at info@theonlinebeat.com, and we will work to get information or a blog post up on it as soon as we can.

With so much already facing job-seekers, a new medium that can paralyze you with confusion, is certainly not welcome---BUT what if that new medium can actually be the key to your success? What if you can use these networks to discover new job openings, new people at those companies, and push your name to the top of the list? I am going to go out on a limb here and promise (pinky-promise style) that you absolutely can find jobs with these new social networks.

So, won't you join us in learning how it all comes together? It's a Job 2.0 world, time to jump in...
