Try to keep a positive attitude because it is easy to defeat yourself if you become discouraged. I have found myself in this position and at times thought things would never turn around, but I knew if I didn't believe in myself, no one else would.

Don't waste time blaming the

Don't waste time blaming the economy! Don't get me wrong, it is currently much more difficult to find a job than it has been in a VERY long time. And yes, in the majority of cases, the economy is at least partially to blame. However, it recently occurred to me that I was completely defeated before I even began. Since I was laid off several months ago, I have had myself convinced that there was no way I would find a job anytime soon. I am a Corporate Recruiter -- ironic, I know. So my mentality was that our current economy certainly affected countless recruiters...including many who were stronger and more experienced than I. My thought had been that until the economy REALLY picks up, no companies would be looking for recruiters -- and even once hiring started again, I would not be able to compete with all of the others who are seeking work. Well, I had an epiphany on Friday. Even if all of those thoughts and beliefs are true, how will I ever know if I don't even try??? If you focus your time and energy blaming the economy, you will be settling into a pessimistic mind-set AND setting yourself up for nothing short of total disappointment. Keep an open mind, believe in your talents, and do NOT give up!

Successful people say "I can"

Successful people say "I can" or "I will" never "I can't" or "I won't". There is power in believing and committing.

There is also help from Your Job Stop blog! It has many ways to help, so read the areas that you need and subscribe to them if you don't want to miss anything they have to say.

Manage your priorities and

Manage your priorities and only say yes to those that will bring you closer to success. Be truthful to yourself about what those are. Keep moving, those that do success comes to them in the future.

Do Not let fear hold you back. Just commit. If you are fearful, break down your goals into smaller ones, and map them out with small steps. Each step will take you closer to your dream career along with giving you experience.

Don't lose track of an online

Don't lose track of an online resume, and be mindful of how up-to-date it is. I recently received two job offers for local companies ... local to where I was living before I moved away 6 months ago ... doh! An out-of-date resume can work against you. For 6 months the out-of-date resume was not only helping me find a job where I no longer live, but also confusing potential local employers whether I was available where I live now. I wish that packet the post office gives you when you move reminding you to notify bills, banks, dmv, etc also told you to update any and all resumes!

When you're job hunting, don't watch TV. Time-wasting activities that build skill are the best, whether it's blogging, playing with Photoshop, etc. You can relax and not waste time.

It's hard to find a job now, but whatever you do, don't put false info on your resume! I've seen many people try this only to get found out and fired later! Just, be honest, keep your head up and you will get a job! :D

Finding a job is hard (I'm still looking), but giving up is harder. Keep trying, think positive and our time will come.

Networking sites seem to a

Networking sites seem to a great place for connecting with potential employers too. If you've applied for a company, find them on twitter, facebook, etc. Learn more about their company.. Just a tip, you might want to create a separate profile for job hunting!

Knowledge is power! If you

Knowledge is power!

If you want to be successful in your job search, knowledge is power!
1. Learn all that you can about the company that you're applying to work for. That shows the company that you want to work for THEM and not just anybody.
2. Do not use cookie cutter resumes and cover letters. Each should be tailored to the business that you are interested in. It may take a little more time but it also shows that you are interested in that company or type work.
3. Know yourself and what you can do. Know what your skills are and play those up. Know how to apply everything you've done to a marketable skill. Volunteer work counts, church work counts - know what you've done and use it to your advantage!
4. Know what your deficits are and work on them. If you are afraid of interviews, practice, practice, practice! Have someone role play with you. Read over your resume and know the high points. You are selling you and your skills - be a good sales person!
5. Understand that many others are applying for the same job. Use every non-hire as a learning experience. Thank the company for the opportunity to interview (who knows? They may remember you.).
6. Don't despair. Successful people at job-hunting are successful because they kept going for just one more interview, put out one more resume, kept looking for one more day.
