ResumePal: A Universal Resume? Or Not?
Here we go again…yet another “fill out once and apply everywhere” promise in the job-seeking world. The latest to join the race is ResumePal.com, an online resume portfolio builder, which allows you to fill out a profile once and then apply to all board that are compatible with ResumePal’s platform.
So who does that include? For a company claiming to be the “universal resume” platform, not too many companies are supporting it yet. However, I guess for just launching it has some bigger names on board, including, ADP, Jobfox, Kenexa, Oracle, SAP, Silkroad Technology, Softscape, and more. It will be interesting to see who else jumps on the bandwagon.
For now the service itself appears pretty standard. You can fill out a profile once and avoid filling out form after form as you visit multiple sites. ResumePal also claims to help match the right employer to your needs, but I don’t see any advanced function that assists in the matching process other than providing your most up-to-date resume and hoping to catch the attention of the right person.
If you ask me it all seems a bit basic. I guess we will have to see what features they add moving forward and what job boards sign on as partners to decide if this is just another resume platform or whether it has something unique to offer the space.
Has anyone tried it? Would love to hear your thoughts...

The first thing that should
The first thing that should have caught your attention is the "Boss Over Shoulder" tab. If you are doing this on company time another employer is not going to want you either. Second, you can only chose 5 skill items out of a list. I had checked 15 and the system would not continue until I reduced 15 down to 5. Third, it only spans six years; not enough to define an individual if he/she worked for six years for the same company. The software is a farce from JobFox!
The big loser with resume pal
The big loser with resume pal is that you can spend hours filing it out with nice little boxes to paste the "talk about your job" part of your resume into...only to discover that when you choose "view resume as employers see it," none of it shows!
It's clunky, slow and incredibly limited. There's no feature for uploading your formatted resume or presenting yourself in your own words. It's just keywords, and you would have figured that out by yourself.

This kind web is trying to steal your inform. I doubt it will success.
"fill out once and apply
"fill out once and apply everywhere"?
Big flop it is.
I still did not see a job posting that supports ResumePal
Joanna, I don't think this is
Joanna,
I don't think this is something that is going to fly -especially not being introduced in this economy. First of all, do all companies want to have to re-do their job matching taxonomy in order to standardize? It does look like another resume application system that does little good to help a seeker or an employer. While big companies have signed on, I doubt it will be used regularly. The other thing is that those companies don't pay for it now because it's still in a test market.
Hi Joanna I sort of like the
Hi Joanna
I sort of like the resumepal concept. You mention that there have been others that have tried to do this.
"Here we go again…yet another “fill out once and apply everywhere”,"
Can you mention some of these sites? Also, I have yet to find a job posting that accepts ResumePal, have you found any?
