Finding the right part-time job can be difficult. There are so many companies offering flexible work schedule, with nights and weekend hours as an option, but you are left wondering if the paychecks will be consistent. Will they let you go once they meet their quotas? Are you easily replaced? You are putting a lot of faith into a part-time contract with companies that see quick turnover on staff and hiring needs. So what can you do?

First and foremost—research the company. You can learn a lot simply by reading up on a company before applying to work there. Whether it’s full-time or part-time, it’s important to know something about the culture before signing on to work somewhere. Secondly, ask current employees their take on things. Do they enjoy their jobs? What would they change if they could? This gives you an idea if you think you would be a good fit with the staff teams already in place. Lastly, ask a lot of questions during the interview. When working part-time often you take things more informally during the interview process, and you are left with lots of questions. Instead ask about the hours, expectations, and anything else that is important to you at the beginning. Even if you are only working a few hours at a company, you are still an employee! Good luck & happy job hunting!
