Post-Interview Steps

When you just finished an interview, you may feel that the difficult part is over. While it is for the most part, there are some things you should remember post-interview as well. Below, you’ll find out the top things to do to gain an advantage over the competition.

Send a Thank You Note
Try to do this within 24 hours of the interview. Make it unique and handwritten. Call the HR department to ask if there is anything else they need from you on your end for final reviews.

Use Your Contacts
If you have anyone on the inside to offer a recommendation, now would be the time for them to drop an email assuring you as a good choice. It shows you enjoyed the company and interview experience, reiterating your excitement for the position.

Promises
If you’ve made any promises to the interviewer, such as sending over something for him or her to look at, getting back to them with a phone number or something else, be sure to make good on those promises. Even if it was just something said in the middle of the interview that didn’t really matter, make good on the promises. It shows your potential employer that you mean what you say and you keep your word. This is very important when you’re trying to get a job.

Follow-Up
After your interview, you can expect to wait a while before hearing anything about the job for which you were applying. However, if it has been 2 weeks or more since your interview, feel free to follow-up. Place a call or send an e-mail to inquire about the status of the job and to let the employer know you’re still very much interested. It could be that you’ve slipped his or her mind, and it’s important to remind them of your value and commitment. Following up can do this for you.

Be Confident
You did all you could, and now it’s out of your hands…now is the time to take that deep breath and pat yourself on the back. Go ahead...give credit where credit is due! Fingers crossed!

By doing the above things after an interview, you can increase your chances of landing the job you were interviewing for.
