Top Questions to Prepare For Prior to an Interview
Most individuals have been to a few interviews, and even if you haven’t, you probably have a pretty good grasp on the kinds of questions you’ll be asked. Anyone can answer questions about their work experience and the schools they have attended. However, interviewers have a few tricky questions up their sleeves designed to weed out individuals who simply aren’t right for the job. Here, you’ll learn the top interview questions to prepare for.
What would you say your top character traits are?
Now this one is pretty easy. Most individuals would say their honesty, commitment to perform above average no matter what the job is, or their attention to detail. Don't be afraid to elaborate and make your "one trait" in a few, and tie them altogether. This question opens the door to some light-bragging, so go for it. Just don't go overboard. Also, keep in mind this question is typically followed by one of the trickier ones...
What would you say your worst character traits are?
How are you supposed to answer this and still get the job? Here’s a tip. Make your negative traits into positive ones. Perhaps you are a sore loser. It would then be easy to answer this question with, ‘I have a drive to always perform well and to finish a job to the best of my ability. At times, I judge my self based on how well I’ve performed.’ Immediately, your interviewer sees that your ‘fault’ isn’t that bad and will be working for the good of the company.
What were your previous employer’s shortcomings?
While you may not know this, the way you viewed your past employer will be considered how you will view your next ones. Rather than laying all of your previous employer’s dirty secrets bare, keep your tone professional. It could be that your previous employer was a credit-hog, making you do all the work and taking all of the praise. A professional way to state this might be, ‘My previous employer’s biggest shortcoming was that he tried to accomplish everything himself. Rather than delegating tasks and rewarding those who performed them well, he took on too much responsibility himself and many of the jobs were not done as well as they could have been if others had been allowed to take over.’
The trick to answering questions is to be honest while painting yourself in a positive light. By preparing for these top interview questions, you can be ready to use your charm and knowledge to land that job.
